Odisha is located in the northeastern part of India, facing the Bay of Bengal. It got recognition as a new state on 1 April 1936 During the British period.

As per the census 2011, Odisha stands as the third highest percentage of tribal population in the country which stands at 9590756. The state has the specific distinction of having 62 different tribal communities spread over 30 districts and 314 blocks.

They comprise 22.85 percent of the total population of the state and contribute 9.17 percent to the total tribe population of the country. The growth and distribution of the ST population have got particular significance.
